What the text tools and calculators are for

Three kinds of everyday tools live here. Text tools work on what you paste: count words and characters, change case, find and replace, sort lines or remove duplicates, and compare two versions. Calculators answer the questions people type into a search box: days between dates, percentages and discounts, ages, units, loans and grades. And there are timers, tests and games for a classroom, an office or a break, from an online timer and a typing test to sudoku and chess.

All of it runs in your browser and answers as you type. What you paste, whether a draft, a list of names or a salary, is worked on by your device and is not sent anywhere or saved. The currency converter is the exception: it fetches the day’s reference rates from our server, and nothing you type goes with the request.

For pay, tax, leave and benefits, the calculators follow the published rules of the country named on each page and give an estimate for a typical case; your employer, the agency in charge or an adviser has the final word on your own. There is no daily limit, no account and nothing to install.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count characters with and without spaces?
Paste the text into Word counter: it shows characters with and without spaces as you type, together with words, sentences, paragraphs and reading time. Japanese and Chinese, which do not use spaces, are counted by character, and an emoji counts as one character.
How do I fix text copied from a PDF that breaks in the middle of sentences?
Remove line breaks joins the lines back into the paragraphs they were written as. Afterwards, Find and replace can clean up what is left, such as double spaces, and Case Converter fixes a heading that was set in capitals.
How many days are there between two dates?
Date calculator counts the days between two dates, or gives the date a number of days later, and the business days page leaves weekends out. For a person’s exact age in years, months and days, use Age calculator.
How do I draw a random winner or split a group into teams?
