Example
Example: a 5-second CPS test with 38 clicks
The usual CPS test: 5 seconds, normal clicking. The timer starts with the first click, and the run ends 5 seconds later.
- CPS is clicks divided by seconds: 38 ÷ 5 = 7.60.
- The chart shows the 37 gaps between the 38 clicks, with the average as a dashed line.
- Steadiness compares the spread of the gaps with their average: 100 × (1 − 5 ÷ 128) ≈ 96.
| Measure | Result |
|---|---|
| Clicks | 38 |
| Clicks per second | 7.60 |
| Average gap | 128 ms |
| Spread | ± 5 ms |
| Steadiness | 96 / 100 |
| Most clicks in one second | 8 |
7.60 CPS is a good score for normal clicking, where most people manage 6 to 8. It is saved as your best for 5 seconds, in this browser only.
How it works
- Choose how long the test lasts: 5 seconds is the usual CPS test.
- Click the area as fast as you can; the timer starts with your first click.
- Read your clicks per second and your best score; use the mouse button panel to check each button and your double-click speed.
Frequently asked questions
- What is a good CPS?
- Most people click 6 to 8 times a second. 10 or more is fast; techniques such as jitter or butterfly clicking reach 12 to 20 and beyond.
- What does the time between clicks chart show?
- After each run, every bar is the gap between two clicks in milliseconds, with a dashed line at the average. Steadiness is 100 when every gap is the same and drops as they vary; the most clicks in one second is your fastest burst.
- Does it count taps on a phone?
- Yes — taps and stylus touches count as clicks. With a mouse only the left button counts in the speed test.
- How do I test if my mouse double-clicks by itself?
- Click once, slowly, on the mouse button panel: a worn switch registers a second click a few milliseconds later. Intervals under 80 ms are flagged — a human double-click is usually 100 ms or more.
- Is my best score saved?
- Only in this browser, for each test length. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- How is CPS calculated?
- Clicks divided by the test length: 38 clicks in a 5-second test is 7.60 CPS. The clock starts with your first click, so reaction time doesn’t count.
- Is anything recorded?
- No. It runs in your browser; nothing you type or click is sent anywhere.
