This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.
Example
Example: a warm light for an evening video call
A laptop beside the monitor as a fill light. Choose a colour and press Full screen: the cursor hides and the screen is asked to stay awake. The keys then switch colour and brightness without the controls.
- Press 7 for the warm custom colour, then ↓ once for 75 %: a black layer at 25 % dims it.
- Turn up the laptop’s own brightness: the page can dim the colour but not make the screen brighter than it can go.
| Key in full screen | What it does |
|---|---|
| 1 to 6 | White, black, red, green, blue, yellow |
| 7 | Your custom colour, which starts as a warm peach, #FFD9A8 |
| ↑ and ↓ | Brightness in steps: 25, 50, 75 and 100 % |
| Esc, or a double-click | Leave full screen |
A soft, warm light on your face from a screen you already have. For a cooler light press 1 for white; to look for dead pixels instead, step through 2 to 5.
How it works
- Pick white or another colour, and the brightness.
- Press Full screen: the whole screen turns that colour and the cursor hides. Keys 1–6 switch colours, ↑ and ↓ the brightness.
- Press Esc or double-click to exit; on a phone, tap once to show the controls.
Frequently asked questions
- What can I use a white screen for?
- As a soft light for video calls, selfies and product photos; to check a projector, monitor or TV for dead pixels, dust and uneven backlight; to trace a drawing; or simply to see smudges when cleaning the screen.
- Can it make my screen brighter?
- No page can go above your screen’s own brightness — turn that up in the device settings. The brightness setting here only dims the colour.
- Will my screen turn off?
- In full screen the page asks the device to stay awake where the browser allows it; otherwise set a longer screen timeout.
- How do I check for dead pixels?
- Show black, white, red, green and blue in turn and look for dots that stay a different colour — or use the dead pixel test, which cycles through them.
- How do I find my screen resolution?
- Choose Show: Screen information. It lists the resolution the browser works with and the device pixels behind it (a laptop at 1440 × 900 with a pixel ratio of 2 has 2880 × 1800), the browser window, colour depth, orientation and refresh rate.
- Can I make the light warmer, or another colour?
- Pick Custom colour… and choose any colour; it starts as a warm peach, #FFD9A8, and key 7 brings it back in full screen. The brightness steps work on it too.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. It runs in your browser.
