    Example

Example: animal words for a kindergarten drawing game

A drawing game in class: one child draws a word on the board, the others guess it. Settings: Kids, Animals, 5 words. Each press of New words draws 5 different ones.

    1. Kids and Animals holds 15 words: cat, dog, fish, bird, cow, pig, horse, duck, frog, lion, bear, rabbit, elephant, monkey, snake.
    2. The Starts with list offers only the letters those words begin with: B, C, D, E, F, H, L, M, P, R, S.
    3. If fewer words match than you asked for, all of them are shown, in a random order.

    How it works

    1. Choose how many words, the level — kids, easy or hard — and a theme, or all of them.
    2. Press New words; narrow them with a first letter or a length if you like.
    3. Copy one word or the whole list for your game, story or lesson.

    Frequently asked questions

What are random words good for?
Drawing and guessing games, writing and improvisation prompts, vocabulary practice, icebreakers, or naming things when you are stuck.
    Which words are there?
Everyday nouns and actions sorted by theme — animals, objects, food, actions, places, jobs, nature — at three levels, in the language of this page.
How many words are there to draw from?
99 at Kids level, 104 at Easy and 103 at Hard, in seven themes of 14 to 16 words each. Hard has words such as peacock, porcupine, parachute and pretzel.
Can I get words starting with a letter?
Yes, pick the first letter, and a minimum or maximum length. If fewer words match than you asked for, all of them are shown.
Do spaces count in the length filter?
No: only letters are counted, so “ice cream” has 8 and “corn on the cob” 12. Spaces, hyphens and apostrophes are left out.
    Do words repeat?
Not within one batch; press New words again for another draw.
    Is anything saved?
No. The words are drawn in your browser.
