How it works

2. Set how long it lasts, or give an end time instead.
3. Add a place, a link, a reminder or a repeat if you need them. Anything in the box becomes the notes on the event.
4. Download the .ics and open it, or attach it to an email so the recipient can add it in one click.

Frequently asked questions

Why not just write one by hand?

Because the format has invisible rules and breaks quietly when they are missed. Lines must end CRLF, must be folded at 75 bytes with a leading space on the continuation, and commas, semicolons and backslashes in the text must be escaped. Get one wrong and some calendars import the event with the description missing, while others refuse the file with no explanation at all.

Which calendars does it work with?

Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar, Thunderbird and anything else that takes iCalendar — it is the standard format, from RFC 5545.

How do I make an all-day event?

Give a date with no time — 2026-01-15 — and it is written as an all-day entry. The end date in the file is then the day after the last day, because the standard treats it as exclusive; write a one-day event ending on the same date by hand and calendars show nothing at all.

What time zone does it use?

The time you type is read as your computer's local time and written into the file in UTC, so the event lands at the same real moment for everyone — a colleague in another country sees it at their own equivalent time. If what you mean is “09:00 wherever you are”, that is a different thing and is better said in the notes.
