Frequently asked questions
- What notice does an employee give in Germany?
- Four weeks to the 15th or the end of a month (§ 622 Abs. 1 BGB), however long they have worked there, unless the contract says otherwise.
- And the employer?
- 1 to 7 months to the end of a month after 2, 5, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 20 years in the business (§ 622 Abs. 2 BGB).
- How does a tenancy notice work?
- It must arrive by the third working day of a month (Saturday counts, Sundays and holidays do not); the tenancy then ends with the month after next (§ 573c BGB).
