Example
Example: a cookie recipe with °F, ½ and ¾, found by typing plain English words
You are typing a cookie recipe into a phone note and want it to read “Bake at 350°F · ½ cup butter · ¾ cup sugar · ≈ 12 min ✓”. The keyboard hides most of those symbols; here each one is a search word away, and the line is put together in Your symbols.
- Search “degree”: five matches in Aesthetic, Math and Weather and sky. Tap °, and it is copied and added to Your symbols; type F after it.
- Search “fraction” for the six in Math, ½ ⅓ ⅔ ¼ ¾ ⅛. Tap ½, type “ cup butter · ”, then tap ¾.
- Search “approximately” for ≈ (and ≅), and “tick” for the three check marks ✓ ✔ √.
- Press Copy all and paste the line into the note. The symbols you tapped wait under Recently used, up to 20, on this device only.
| You search | Matches | Symbol used |
|---|---|---|
| degree | 5 | ° |
| fahrenheit | 1 | ℉ (° and F in one character) |
| fraction | 6 | ½ and ¾ |
| approximately | 2 | ≈ |
| tick | 3 | ✓ |
| plus minus | 2 | ± |
| not equal | 1 | ≠ |
One ordinary line of text, “Bake at 350°F · ½ cup butter · ¾ cup sugar · ≈ 12 min ✓”, that pastes the same into a note, an email or a document. Each symbol takes the font and colour of the text around it.
How it works
- Pick a category or search in English (heart, arrow, star, check…).
- Tap a symbol: it is copied and added to Your symbols, where you can build a name or a line of symbols.
- Paste it anywhere — a message, a bio, a document or a game name. Recently used symbols stay at the top.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I type symbols without copying?
- On Windows press Win + . (period) for the emoji and symbol panel; on a Mac, Ctrl + Cmd + Space. On phones, the symbol keys of the keyboard hold many of them.
- Why do some symbols show as a box?
- The font on that device doesn’t have the character. Common symbols work everywhere; rare ones (old scripts, music notation) may show as a box on older phones.
- Are these emoji?
- Mostly not: they are text symbols, which take the colour of the text around them. A few hearts are emoji and show in colour.
- Can I use them in a game or social media name?
- Usually yes — the nickname category has the popular ones. Some games allow only letters and numbers; then no symbol will pass.
- How do I type the degree sign on a keyboard?
- Search “degree” here and tap °. Without copying: on Windows hold Alt and type 0176 on the number pad; on a Mac press Option + Shift + 8; on an iPhone, press and hold the 0 key.
- What words does the search understand?
- English words from each symbol’s description and the category names: heart, arrow, star, fraction, degree, tick, currency. Several words narrow it down — “plus minus” finds only ± and ∓ — and a symbol pasted into the search finds itself.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. The symbols are copied in your browser; the recently used ones are kept on this device only.
