Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free?
- Yes — no sign-up and no character limit. The reading is done by the voices already on your device, so nothing is charged per word.
- Why are the voices different on another device?
- Each phone, tablet and computer comes with its own set of voices, and you can add more in the system’s speech or language settings. The list shows the voices for the page’s language first.
- Can I download the audio as an MP3?
- Not here: the system plays the speech directly and doesn’t hand the sound to the page. To keep it, you would need to record the computer’s sound output.
- Can it help with reading difficulties?
- Yes — hearing a text while each word is highlighted helps many people with dyslexia, people learning a language, and anyone proofreading their own writing. Slow it down to follow more easily.
- Is my text sent anywhere?
- Not with the voices on your device. Voices marked “online” send the text to their service to be spoken; pick another voice if you’d rather not.
