Nothing leaves your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.

How it works

  1. Choose the signal — a colour change, five starting lights or a sound — and how many rounds.
  2. Click, tap or press Space to start, then wait: react the instant the signal comes. Too early and the round starts again.
  3. After the last round you get each time, your average and your best, in milliseconds.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good reaction time?
For a visual signal most people score 200 to 300 ms; under 200 is quick. Reactions to sound are usually 20 to 50 ms faster than to light.
How accurate is the timing?
The signal is timed from the frame on which it is drawn, and your click from the moment the browser receives it. The screen’s own delay (often 5 to 30 ms) and a wireless mouse add a little, so compare results on the same device.
What are the starting lights?
Five red lights come on one by one and then all go out after a random pause, as at the start of a motor race. React when they go out.
Why test with a sound?
Hearing is faster than sight, and the sound mode lets people who can’t rely on colour take the test too. Use headphones or speakers with little delay.
Is anything recorded?
No. It runs in your browser; nothing you type or click is sent anywhere.
