Keyboard ghosting test
Hold keys together and see which ones your keyboard drops.
Combinations to try
Click here, then hold several keys at once. Esc lets Tab leave; Enter or a click starts again.

If a key you are holding does not light up, your keyboard dropped it. A browser cannot see a key the keyboard never sent, so compare what you hold with what is lit.
Many laptop keyboards, and some USB or Bluetooth keyboards, report only a few keys at once. The browser also sees only what the system passes on: the Windows key, Fn and media keys may not show.
Nothing leaves your device
This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.
How it works
- Click the keyboard drawing and choose your layout if it isn’t picked automatically.
- Pick a combination such as W + A + S + D, then hold all of its keys at the same time: its keys are outlined until they light.
- Read the keys held now and the most held at once. A key you hold that does not light was dropped by the keyboard.
Frequently asked questions
- What is keyboard ghosting?
- When you hold several keys, some keyboards cannot tell every combination apart, so a key you press is not sent (or a key you did not press appears). In games this shows up as a move that does not happen.
- What is key rollover (NKRO)?
- Rollover is how many keys a keyboard reports at once. 6-key rollover is common on USB keyboards; N-key rollover (NKRO) reports every key. The most keys held at once here is what reached the browser.
- Why do only six keys light up at once?
- Many keyboards in their standard USB mode report six keys plus modifiers such as Shift and Ctrl, and laptop keyboards often report fewer in some combinations. Your keyboard’s own settings may offer a full rollover mode.
- Why don’t the Windows key, Fn or media keys show?
- The browser only receives what the operating system passes on. Fn is handled inside the keyboard, and the system keeps some keys for itself.
- Is anything recorded?
- No. It runs in your browser with nothing to install; nothing you type is sent or uploaded anywhere.
