Example
Example: a big classroom clock on the projector during a timed test
A teacher wants the time on the classroom screen during a 45-minute test, readable from the back row. She keeps Digital, leaves Hours on “As usual in my language” (12-hour on this page), keeps Show seconds and Show the date on, and presses Full screen.
- The clock fills the screen on a dark background: 1:47:05 PM in large figures, with the date, Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
- 12-hour time has no leading zero (9:05:03 AM); 24-hour time writes 09:05:03 and 13:47:05. With the seconds off it reads a calmer 1:47 PM.
- In full screen the page asks the device to keep the screen on, where the browser allows it, so the laptop doesn’t go to sleep halfway through the test.
- Press Esc or double-click to leave full screen; on a touch screen, a tap shows the exit button.
| Setting | The clock shows |
|---|---|
| 12-hour, seconds on | 1:47:05 PM |
| 12-hour, seconds off | 1:47 PM |
| 24-hour, seconds on | 13:47:05 |
| 24-hour, in the morning | 09:05:03 |
| Show the date | Tuesday, March 17, 2026 |
The whole room can see the time to the second without a wall clock, taken from the laptop’s own clock, which is kept in sync with internet time.
How it works
- The page shows your device’s time at once: digital by default, or with hands.
- Choose 12- or 24-hour and whether to show the seconds and the date.
- Press Full screen: the clock fills the screen on a dark background and the screen stays on.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the time exact?
- It shows your device’s clock, which phones and computers keep in sync with internet time — usually within a fraction of a second. The seconds change exactly on the second.
- Will the screen switch off?
- In full screen the page asks the device to stay awake where the browser allows it, so it works as a desk or bedside clock.
- Can I use it as a study clock?
- Yes — full screen with the seconds hidden is calm to keep on a second monitor. For timed sessions, use the pomodoro timer.
- Can I show another time zone?
- The clock follows your device. To compare places, use the time zone converter.
- How do I exit full screen?
- Press Esc or double-click the clock. On a phone or tablet, tap the screen once: the hint and an exit button appear for a moment.
- Can it show 24-hour time?
- Yes: set Hours to 24-hour and the clock shows 13:47:05 instead of 1:47:05 PM, with a leading zero in the morning (09:05:03). “As usual in my language” picks 12-hour on this English page.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. The clock runs in your browser from your device’s time.
