How it works

1. Paste the text. The result updates as you type.
2. Keep "Lines, but keep paragraphs apart" to join each paragraph and leave the blank lines between them, or join everything into one block.
3. Leave the space setting on Automatic: English lines are joined with a space, Japanese and Chinese lines with nothing, which is how each is written.

Frequently asked questions

Why does text copied from a PDF have a line break at the end of every line?

A PDF records where each line was drawn on the page, not where the paragraphs are, so copying hands over one line at a time with a break after each. This tool takes those breaks out again and keeps the ones that separate paragraphs — the blank lines.

What happens to a word hyphenated across two lines?

With "Put hyphenated words back together" on, a line ending in a letter and a hyphen, followed by a line starting with a lower-case letter, is joined without the hyphen: "exam-" and "ple" become "example". Before a capital letter or a digit the hyphen is a real one and is kept, with no space after it: "Jean-" and "Paul" become "Jean-Paul". A compound that happens to break at its own hyphen before a lower-case word ("well-" and "known") loses the hyphen; switch the option off for text full of those.

Does it work for Japanese and Chinese?

Yes. Those languages put no spaces between words, so on Automatic a line that ends or starts with a Japanese or Chinese character is joined with nothing in between. Korean uses spaces between words and is joined with a space, like English.

My text has no blank lines between paragraphs. What can I do?

Then nothing in the text says where one paragraph ends, and every line is joined into one. Add an empty line where each paragraph should end first, or join everything and put the breaks back by hand.

No. It is joined in this page, on your device, and nothing is uploaded or stored.
