Example
Example: a 10-minute quiz on the classroom dial, and what you can type
A teacher gives the class 10 minutes for a quiz: types 10 (a plain number is minutes), chooses Display: Classroom timer (red dial) and Sound: Bell, and presses Start.
- The dial is a 60-minute face: 10 minutes is a red wedge of 60° beside the 12, and it shrinks back to the 12 as the time runs out. With 5 minutes left it is 30°.
- A timer longer than an hour gets a two-hour face, marked every 10 minutes.
- Someone needs longer? +1 min adds a minute to the time left, even while it runs.
| Typed | Timer set to |
|---|---|
| 10 | 10:00 |
| 10 min | 10:00 |
| 1:30 | 01:30 |
| 90s | 01:30 |
| 2.5 | 02:30 |
| 45 sec | 00:45 |
| 1h 30m | 1:30:00 |
| 100 | 1:40:00 |
At zero it shows “Time’s up!” and the bell rings for about five seconds; a click or a key stops it sooner. The quick times, 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 60 minutes, set and start a timer in one tap.
How it works
- Type a time — 5 for five minutes, 1:30, 90s or 1h 30m — or tap one of the quick times.
- Press Start (or the space bar). Add a minute while it runs if you need more time.
- When it reaches zero it rings for about five seconds (a click or a key stops it sooner); press Full screen for a classroom or meeting.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I set a timer for 10 minutes?
- Type 10 and press Start, or tap 10 under Quick times, which starts it at once. 10:00, 10m and 10 min work too; a plain number is always minutes, so 100 is 1:40:00.
- Does it keep time in another tab?
- Yes. The time is worked out from the clock, not by counting ticks, so it stays right in a background tab or after the laptop sleeps, and the sound is scheduled ahead so it rings on time.
- Can I show it on a projector?
- Press Full screen (or F): the digits fill the screen, big enough for a classroom or a meeting room. Press Esc to leave.
- What sounds can it make?
- A bell, beeps or an alarm, made in the browser — or none, for a silent countdown that just shows “Time’s up!”. On an iPhone the ring/silent switch mutes it.
- Are there keyboard shortcuts?
- Space starts and pauses, R resets, F switches full screen and L records a lap on the stopwatch.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The timer runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
