Invisible character

Blank characters to copy — for an empty name, an empty message or extra spaces.

Some apps trim spaces at the start and end — put the blank between visible letters, or use several.

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.

Example

Example: an empty line that stays in a bio, and a gap in a game name

Two jobs for a blank. A bio should read “Bookworm”, an empty line, then “New York”, but the app squeezes out empty lines. And the name “Night Owl” has to go into a game that refuses spaces. Both are checked in Test here before pasting.

  1. For the bio, copy the braille blank (U+2800) and paste it alone on the middle line. The line is no longer empty, so the gap stays.
  2. For the name, copy the Hangul filler (U+3164) once, then type Night, paste it, and type Owl: 9 characters with a visible gap.
  3. Paste each into Test here: every character is shown with its code, the hidden ones highlighted, and Length gives both counts.
Pasted into Test here Length (UTF-16 · code points) Hidden characters shown
Bookworm / ⠀ / New York (three lines) 19 · 19LINE FEED, U+2800 BRAILLE PATTERN BLANK, LINE FEED, and the SPACE in New York
Night + Hangul filler + Owl 9 · 9U+3164 HANGUL FILLER
Night + zero-width space + Owl 9 · 9U+200B ZERO WIDTH SPACE, which leaves no gap at all
ㅤㅤㅤ (How many to copy: 3) 3 · 3U+3164 HANGUL FILLER, three times
Owl 🦉 6 · 5Only the SPACE; the owl emoji is 2 UTF-16 units

The blank line holds and the name shows its gap. Each blank counts as one character against a name limit, while an emoji such as 🦉 can count as two where the limit is checked in UTF-16 units.

How it works

  1. Pick a blank: the Hangul filler (U+3164) is the usual one for blank names, the braille blank (U+2800) for empty messages and bios.
  2. Set how many to copy and press Copy, then paste it where you need the blank.
  3. If the app refuses it, try another one — or paste your text into Test here to see which invisible characters it contains.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a blank name?
Copy the Hangul filler (ㅤ, U+3164) and paste it as the name. Many games and apps accept it because it counts as a letter; if one says the name is empty or too short, paste it two or three times.
How do I send an empty message?
Use the braille blank (U+2800): it is a character, not a space, so chat apps don’t trim it and the message goes through looking empty.
What is a zero-width space?
U+200B: a character with no width at all, used to allow a line break inside a long word. Many sites remove it, so it is not a good blank name.
How can I find hidden characters in a text?
Paste it into Test here: every character is shown with its code, and the invisible ones are highlighted — useful when a copied password or a name “with nothing in it” behaves oddly.
Does an invisible character count toward a character limit?
Yes, one each: three Hangul fillers are 3 characters, like three letters. Test here shows the length both ways — in UTF-16 units, the way most “max characters” checks count, and in code points. An emoji such as 🦉 is 2 and 1.
How do I keep an empty line in a bio or caption?
Put the braille blank (U+2800) alone on the empty line. An app that removes empty lines finds a character there and leaves the line, while readers see nothing on it.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. Copying and testing happen in your browser.
