How it works
- Type or paste prices, one per line. A word before the price ("Coffee 3.20") is fine.
- Choose the rate, and whether the prices are before VAT or include it.
- A line can say otherwise for itself: "5%" for another rate, "incl" or "net", or "x 4" for a quantity.
- Each line shows net, VAT and gross, and the total below adds them up.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the VAT in the total not the sum of the lines?
- Because an invoice works out VAT once per rate on the total, not line by line, and the rounding of many small amounts can differ by a penny or two. The total here does the same, and says so when the two differ.
- How do I take VAT out of a price?
- Choose "Including VAT", or add "incl" to the line. At 20 %, the VAT in a price is a sixth of it: £120 is £100 net and £20 VAT.
- Can I use another country’s rate?
- Yes: choose Another rate and type it (19, 21, 8.1…), or put the rate on the line itself, such as "100 19%". The German, French, Spanish, Italian and Japanese pages start from their own country’s rates.
- Is what I type sent anywhere?
- No. The calculation runs in this page as you type.
