Example
Example: age 35, ¥280,000 a month, 8 years insured, quitting or being let go
Average monthly pay over the last six months ¥280,000 (overtime in, bonuses out), age 35–44, insured 5–10 years. The daily wage is ¥280,000 × 6 ÷ 180 = ¥9,333; at that wage the rate is 65.6 %, so the benefit is ¥6,119 a day.
- The daily amount is the same either way; what changes is the number of days.
- Leaving of your own accord adds a month without payment after the 7-day wait; after a dismissal, payment starts once the 7 days are over.
- It is paid every four weeks: 28 × ¥6,119 = ¥171,332.
| Years insured (35–44, ¥280,000) | I left, or the contract ended | The employer ended it |
|---|---|---|
| 1–5 | 90 days, ¥550,710 | 150 days, ¥917,850 |
| 5–10 | 90 days, ¥550,710 | 180 days, ¥1,101,420 |
| 10–20 | 120 days, ¥734,280 | 240 days, ¥1,468,560 |
| 20 or more | 150 days, ¥917,850 | 270 days, ¥1,652,130 |
The higher the pay, the lower the rate: ¥200,000 a month gives ¥5,036 a day (75.5 %), ¥300,000 gives ¥6,307 (63.1 %) and ¥400,000 gives ¥6,744 (50.6 %). An estimate on the table in force from 1 August 2026; the employment office sets the final figure.

- How many days will I get?
- If you left or the contract ended, 90 to 150 days by years insured. If the employer ended the job, 90 to 330 days by age and years insured: 330 at 45–59 with 20 years or more. At 35 with 8 years insured it is 90 or 180 days.
- Can I get it with less than a year insured?
- If the employer ended the job, 6 months insured in the last year are enough, and it pays 90 days. Leaving of your own accord needs 12 months insured in the last two years.
