Hangman
Guess the word one letter at a time — six wrong letters and it’s over.
Word: blank, blank, blank
Pick a letter on the keyboard below or type it. Six wrong letters complete the drawing and the game is lost.
Letters with accents count as the plain letter: guessing E also reveals É or È.

Example
Example: a parent sets “Wednesday” from the spelling list, guessed with 4 misses
Wednesday is on this week’s spelling list. Dad chooses “A word from a friend”, types it in the Secret word box (it shows as dots), presses Start and hands the tablet over. Nine blanks appear. Six wrong letters complete the drawing.
- E fills two places: _E__E____. A and S follow: _E__ES_A_.
- T and R are wrong: 2 of 6 misses, the head and body are drawn. N gives _E_NES_A_ and D fills both Ds: _EDNESDA_.
- I and O are wrong too: 4 misses, both arms drawn. Y gives _EDNESDAY and W finishes it.
| Letter | Result | On screen |
|---|---|---|
| E | in the word, twice | _ E _ _ E _ _ _ _ |
| A, S | in the word | _ E _ _ E S _ A _ |
| T, R | not in the word (2 misses) | _ E _ _ E S _ A _ |
| N | in the word | _ E _ N E S _ A _ |
| D | in the word, twice | _ E D N E S D A _ |
| I, O | not in the word (4 misses) | _ E D N E S D A _ |
| Y, W | in the word | W E D N E S D A Y |
“You got it!” WEDNESDAY in 11 guesses with 4 misses, and the blank between E and N showed exactly where the silent D goes. A friend’s word doesn’t change the streak; New word brings the empty Secret word box back for the next one.
How it works
- Choose a word list — or “A word from a friend” and let them type a secret word.
- Guess letters on the keyboard; right letters appear in the word, wrong ones add to the drawing.
- Find the whole word before six wrong guesses; keep your streak going with New word.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you play hangman?
- The word is shown as blanks, one per letter. Guess a letter: if it’s in the word, every place it appears is filled in; if not, another part of the drawing is added. Guess the word before the drawing is complete.
- Any tips?
- Start with common vowels and letters such as E, A, O, T, N and S, then use the pattern of blanks to think of words that fit.
- Can I set the word for a friend?
- Yes — choose “A word from a friend”: one person types the secret word (it stays hidden), then hands over the device to the guesser. Good for spelling practice too.
- Is it suitable for children?
- Yes — the built-in words are everyday words about animals, food, nature, colours and jobs, and the drawing is a simple stick figure.
- How many wrong guesses do you get?
- Six: head, body, two arms and two legs. A letter you already tried doesn’t count again. A friend’s word can be up to 30 letters, spaces and hyphens included, and needs at least two different letters.
- Does a friend’s word count towards the streak?
- No. Only words from the lists count: each win adds one, a loss sets it back to 0, and the best streak is kept. Both are saved in this browser on this device, not in an account.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. The game runs in your browser.
