Arabic keyboard online

Type Arabic on any computer, right to left.

Characters: 0

Your own keyboard types here too, by key position: each key types the character shown on it below (the small Latin letter is your key), Shift for the second one. If your computer is already set to this script, its keys are left as they are.

Nothing leaves your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.

Example

Example: typing مرحبا and شكرا on an English keyboard

Each key types the Arabic letter printed on it, so on a QWERTY keyboard a word is always the same run of keys. The text runs right to left, and the letters join up by themselves as you type.

  1. م is on L, ر on V, ح on P, ب on F and ا on H: L V P F H types مرحبا.
  2. For harakat, type the letter, then Shift and the mark’s key: شُكْرًا is A, Shift+E (damma), ;, Shift+X (sukun), V, Shift+W (tanwin fath), H.
  3. The hamza forms are on Shift too: Shift+H gives أ, Shift+Y إ and Shift+N آ.

Press Copy and paste the Arabic where you need it. The digits stay 1 2 3, as on the standard Arabic keyboard.

How it works

  1. Click the letters, or type on your own keyboard: each key types the Arabic letter shown on it.
  2. Hold Shift (or tap it) for the harakat — fatha, damma, kasra, shadda, sukun — and for آ أ إ.
  3. Press Copy and paste the Arabic text into your message or document.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add harakat (vowel marks)?
Type the letter, then Shift and the key of the mark: fatha on Q, damma on E, kasra on A, sukun on X, shadda on Shift + the key left of 1 — shown on the keys when Shift is on.
Where is lam-alif (لا)?
On the B key, like the standard Arabic keyboard; Shift + B gives لآ, Shift + G لأ and Shift + T لإ.
Why do the digits stay 1 2 3?
The standard Arabic keyboard types these digits too; many Arabic-speaking countries use them.
Can I type Persian or Urdu letters such as پ, چ or گ?
Not from the keys on the page: this is the standard Arabic layout, which has no پ, چ, ژ or گ. If your own computer is set to a Persian or Urdu keyboard, what it types is kept as it is.
Why do the letters change shape as I type?
Arabic letters take a different form at the start, middle and end of a word. You always type the plain letter (ب on F); the browser joins it to its neighbours by itself.
How do I use the text?
Press Copy and paste it into your message, document or search box. Nothing is saved: copy before you close the page.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The keyboard works in your browser; the text stays on the page until you copy it.
