Example
Example: a 5-minute class task on the red-dial timer
A teacher gives the class five minutes for a quick write and puts the timer on the projector. Display: Classroom timer (red dial), Sound: Bell, then Full screen (or F) and Start (or the space bar).
- The dial is marked 0 to 60 minutes like a kitchen timer, so five minutes is a narrow red wedge that shrinks back to 12 as time runs.
- Need longer? +1 min adds a minute while it runs, and Pause stops the clock for a question.
- At zero the bell rings for about five seconds; a click or a key stops it sooner.
| Time left | Red wedge on the 60-minute dial |
|---|---|
| 05:00 | 30°, from 12 to the 5 on the dial |
| 04:00 | 24° |
| 02:30 | 15° |
| 01:00 | 6° |
| 00:00 | gone, and the bell rings |
From the back of the room the class sees how much time is left without reading any digits; the time keeps right even if the laptop switches to another window.
How it works
- Press Start (or the space bar): the timer counts down from 5:00.
- Add a minute with +1 min, or pause and resume as you need.
- When it reaches zero it rings for about five seconds (a click or a key stops it sooner).
Frequently asked questions
- What can I time with a 5-minute timer?
- A short break, a quick exercise in class, tea to steep, a presentation slot or a plank.
- Does it keep time in another tab?
- Yes. The time is worked out from the clock, not by counting ticks, so it stays right in a background tab or after the laptop sleeps, and the sound is scheduled ahead so it rings on time.
- Can I show it on a projector?
- Press Full screen (or F): the digits fill the screen, big enough for a classroom or a meeting room. Press Esc to leave.
- Can I change the time?
- Yes — type another time in the box (1:30, 20, 90s) or tap one of the quick times.
- Can I set 4 minutes 30 seconds?
- Yes: type 4:30 or 4.5 in the box. 5, 5:00, 5m and 300s all mean five minutes, and the longest time is 99 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds.
- What do the three displays show?
- Digits count down from 05:00. The classroom timer shows the time left as a red wedge on a 60-minute dial, 30° for five minutes. The hourglass shows sand running from the top to the bottom.
- Is anything uploaded?
- No. The timer runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
