This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.
How it works
- Type the time (2, 1:30, 90s) or pick a quick time, then press Start: the glass turns over and the sand starts to fall.
- The top empties and the bottom fills as time passes; the minutes and seconds are shown underneath.
- At zero the chosen sound plays. Full screen shows the hourglass large for a class or a game.
Frequently asked questions
- How long can the sand timer run?
- Any time you type — from a few seconds to hours. The sand is always the share of the time left, so a 30-second and a 10-minute glass empty at their own pace.
- What is a sand timer good for?
- Tooth brushing (2 minutes), board game turns, cooking an egg, short tasks in class, or a speaking turn — children see time pass without reading a clock.
- Does it keep running in another tab?
- Yes. The time is counted from the clock, not from the animation, so it stays right even when the tab is in the background.
- Can I use it without sound?
- Yes — choose No sound; the hourglass and the digits still show when the time is up.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. The timer runs in your browser.
