Example
Example: reading the hands at 3:40:20 in the afternoon
The clock follows your device’s time. At 3:40:20 PM the face looks like this, with “3:40:20 PM” written small underneath: English pages use the 12-hour clock unless you set Hours to 24-hour, which shows 15:40:20.
- The hour hand keeps moving, half a degree a minute: at 12:30 it is halfway between 12 and 1 (15°), at 6:45 three quarters of the way from 6 to 7 (202.5°).
- The minute hand moves 6° a minute and a tenth of a degree every second, so it creeps along rather than jumping.
- Press Full screen: the clock turns light on a near-black background, the pointer and the bar hide while the mouse is still, and Esc or a double-click brings the page back.
| Hand | Where it points | Angle from 12 |
|---|---|---|
| Hour hand (short, thick) | Two thirds of the way from 3 to 4, not on the 3 | 110.2° |
| Minute hand (long) | Just past the 8: 40 minutes and a third | 242° |
| Second hand (thin, red) | On the 4: 20 seconds | 120° |
A wall clock for a TV, a projector or a spare tablet: leave Show seconds on for the red second hand, or turn it off for a calmer face. With Show the date on, the weekday, day, month and year sit under the face.
How it works
- The clock shows your device’s time with hour, minute and a red second hand.
- Turn the second hand and the date on or off; the digital time is shown small underneath.
- Press Full screen for a wall clock on a TV, a projector or a spare tablet.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the time exact?
- It follows your device’s clock, kept in sync with internet time; the second hand ticks exactly on each second.
- Can children use it to learn the time?
- Yes — and the teaching clock lets you drag the hands to any time and hide the answer for a quiz.
- Will the screen stay on?
- In full screen the page asks the device to stay awake where the browser allows it.
- Can I hide the second hand?
- Yes — untick Show seconds for a quieter face.
- Can it show 24-hour time?
- Yes: set Hours to 24-hour and the time under the face reads 15:40:20 instead of 3:40:20 PM. The face itself keeps the numbers 1 to 12, as an analog clock has them.
- How do I leave full screen?
- Press Esc or double-click anywhere on the clock. Moving the mouse brings back the bar at the top for a moment; when the mouse is still, the bar and the pointer fade away again.
- Is anything sent anywhere?
- No. The clock runs in your browser from your device’s time.
