Butterfly clicking

Rest two fingers (index and middle) on the same button and tap them in turn, like a drum roll. The chart shows the alternating rhythm. Your clicks are counted the same way as any others.

Take breaks between runs and stop if your wrist, hand or forearm hurts. Short runs are enough to practise.

Nothing leaves your device

This tool runs entirely in your browser. What you type, play or record here stays on your device: nothing is uploaded or saved on a server.

How it works

  1. Rest your index and middle fingers on the left mouse button.
  2. Tap them in turn, like a drum roll, on the area: the 10-second timer starts with your first click.
  3. Read your clicks per second and the chart of the time between clicks; butterfly clicking often shows a short-long alternating pattern.

Frequently asked questions

What is butterfly clicking?
Two fingers rest on the same mouse button and tap it in turn. Because each finger only has to move half as often, many people reach 15 to 20 clicks per second or more.
Does the test detect butterfly clicking?
No. Every click is counted the same way; this page only shows butterfly tips and keeps a separate best score for butterfly runs.
Why does my chart alternate between short and long gaps?
Your two fingers rarely tap at exactly the same rhythm, so the gaps alternate. A higher steadiness score means a more even roll.
Is butterfly clicking hard on my hand?
Fast tapping for long periods strains the fingers and wrist. Keep runs short, take breaks and stop if anything hurts.
Is anything recorded?
No. It runs in your browser with nothing to install; your best score stays in this browser and nothing is uploaded.
